Mitcham Pinoy Support Change4Life

By Cathy Dalida

On 31st August, Mitcham Pinoy were invited to participate in the first ever Change4Life event, which was held in Morden Park. This is a one-day event organised by the Merton Council. There is a stage show performance by the participating groups in the community such as Indian dance, African dance, singing performances, etc. Many foodstalls are also available in the venue selling different types of dishes with their own speciality like paella, chowmein noodles, Filipino spring rolls, oriental-style barbecue, burgers, chips, ice cream, hotdogs and many more.

We at Mitcham Pinoy showed our support to this campaign to the Borough of Merton. With this event, we extended our sincere participation in the community’s socio-economic activities. We are honoured that we became part of the Change4Life event as we became aware of what is happening in our society most especially in this modern life.

Mitcham Pinoy are so honoured that day as Hon Mayor Nick Draper (Borough of Merton) visited our stall; spend some time to have a chat with our members. We also asked the Mayor for a picture taking and he did not refused.  We offered him to taste our delicious chowmein noodles and tasty oriental-style barbecue and the Mayor just loved it.

Change4life is all about getting every individual today to be more healthy in their lifestyle especially when it comes to eating healthy and growing up strong. They offer useful tips about buying healthy but tasty food from the market that would also help the family saves money from their purchases. Some activities are presented to the families for fun as well as exercises. This includes swimming where the family could spend quality time with each other and it helps them stay healthy whilst having fun.

Change4life is for every one who wanted to have a long and healthy life for their family and as well as for themselves. You get to meet other people and families in the community and members gets to enjoy different creative activities which they could challenge others. They give information on what’s currently happening in the community that may encourage families or individuals to take part in.

This means all of us need to make small changes to eat well, move more, and live longer - therefore it is important that we do something about it.
