MITCHAM FAIR GREEN FESTIVAL

By: Andrea Colquhoun

Once again the Mitcham Filipino-British Association got involved with the community through Grace Salmon of Positive Network and organizer of the event.  Positive Network is a charitable and voluntary organization with the aim of getting the young and old together and enjoying each other’s company.  The club is run by its members and volunteers.

It was a great and sunny day. The party on the green was in full swing with people (young and old) dancing, singing and playing their musical instruments. There were a variety of food stalls. The community enjoyed our ever popular and delicious chicken barbecue, noodles and spring rolls.

The highlight of the day was our participation in the mini fashion show of our country’s traditional costumes.  Priscilla presented Andrea modeling the patadyong and kimona with her escort, Uly wearing the camisa de chino and red pants with matching panyolito which signifies courage and bravery of the katipuneros led by one of the national heroes Andres Bonifacio. Jess wore the famous barong tagalog and escorted Cecile in her mestiza dress circa 1970’s and Carina modeled the modern terno or the filipiniana.

We applaud the effort and commitment of our members that made this event a success.
