Stonehenge, one of the “Wonders of the Medieval World”, is a powerful reminder of the once-great “Stone and Bronze Ages”. Each phase of Stonehenge was a circular structure, aligned with the rising sun at the solstice. The stones were carried hundreds of miles over land and sea, while antlers and bones were used to dig the pits that hold the stones.
Mitcham Pinoy hired Mitcham Belle “Excutive Coach” for this out of town trip. These smooth and comfortable coach carry all the expected facilities including air conditioning, WC and a drinks bar. There is also a video/DVD for entertaining.
It was a cloudy and windy weather but that didn’t stopped us to go all the way to Stonehenge, our first destination. When we reached the stones, we saw the remnants personally, we walked around the stone, others took photographs for their remembrance. Right after Stonehenge...
Mitcham Pinoy went straight to Glastonbury to witness the “Spectacular Parade of Lights”. Mitcham Pinoy reached Glastonbury at around 3.00pm, enough time for us to go around the town proper, buy local stuffs, and meeting new friends and acquaint ourselves to the community.
The Glastonbury Carnival Parade of Lights started at 7.00pm. Thousands of spectators poured in from near and far, including Mitcham Pinoy. The traffic was closed off and the town reeks of hotdog stands and outdoor snack bars. People lined the streets, all wrapped up against the cold.
When the parade started, illuminated bikers came out first, followed by big illuminated floats, often high-tech rigs towed by disguised tractors and pulling enormous generators to power the thousands of light-bulbs lighting the floats, and with hard-pumping disco music.
The fantastic parade finished nearly at 10.00pm but spectators enjoyed the show. Carnivals of this kind are quite unique to Somerset. The floats were built by farmers and the villagers volunteered to raise their own funds locally.
Mitcham Pinoy really enjoyed this out of town trip because this is a very historic moment to everybody, a chance of a lifetime to see the remnants of Stonehenge and the Glastonbury finest illuminated parade of lights.
